What a Change

I honestly can’t believe the time has flown by as fast as it has. Even with moving halfway across the country it’s a little crazy that it has been less than a year since our world has been turned upside down.

In less than 4 months we have unpacked about 80% of our stuff, the kids have made neighborhood friends quickly, and we’ve started socializing.

We’ve never fully unpacked from one house to another. The next move will be different!

Then, just before the 6 month mark the world took another hit. Between COVID and political issues we got ready to hunker down again. It’s not like it’s any more difficult now at least. The sad part is that we had to explain to the kids how to communicate to their friends regarding this pandemic. Some kids wear masks here, some don’t. Some understand how others can be affected, some don’t. We’ve done our best to teach our kids how this virus works, to put their family and friends at the front of their mind, understanding that not everyone thinks the same way. These wonderful beings we’ve created have complained very little considering the blow to their social life. I’m proud to have intelligent kids who are ok with scrapping a year of their life for the greater good.

Even though all of this feels mostly real, we still won’t feel “settled” until we reach our next home. At first it really felt like we were vacationing long term, a VBRO situation. Now, we are at the half-way point to start considering home shopping. I am so ready to make the next steps with our family. I think this forced situation has helped us realize a lot. Sometimes a big change can be the rocking the boat needed!
